Examining Codes of Ethics

NAEYC Code of Ethics
Listed are the three codes of ethics that are meaningful to me.

P-1.8—We shall be familiar with the risk factors for and

symptoms of child abuse and neglect, including

physical, sexual, verbal, and emotional abuse and

physical, emotional, educational, and medical neglect.

We shall know and follow state laws and community

procedures that protect children against abuse and

neglect.

I personally believe that this code will be very meaningful and needed in my profession. As an educator it is and will continue to be my responsibility to recognize when and if a child is being abused. It is also my responsibility to be the voice of the child who may be have been abused. In today's society there are many children who are suffering at the hands of their family and non family members and who are afraid to speak up. As an educator, It is my duty to know and respond to any type of symptoms that a child might display.

I-2.2—To develop relationships of mutual trust and

create partnerships with the families we serve.

As educators, we will be in constant contact with families. It is vital that educators develop a close relationship with families to work together as a team in educating children. when parents leave their children in educators care, they are trusting that the educator will keep their child safe and educate and prepare their child for their future. As an educator, I must learn and develop these close relationships early on. Families are children's first teachers and they have and know the answerer's to many questions that educators may not know on their own. It is really a partnership when educating children. There are many children who only open up with their families and may be withdrawn at school. This is a time when parent partnership is much needed. Parents know their children best and is able to help the educator in educating the child in the most individualized manner.

P-1.4—We shall involve all those with relevant knowledge

(including families and staff) in decisions concerning

a child, as appropriate, ensuring confidentiality

of sensitive information.

In my future studies and teachings, I must remember that it is very vital to involve all parties that are active in the lives of children. not only is the parent and teacher involved with the child's life, but some children have doctors, psychologist, therapist, pastors, and many others that play a key role in children's lives. There are children who may have an IEP. Decision regarding curriculum or classroom assignments should not be solely made upon the teacher. This is a decision that should be b]made with the regular education teacher, parents, special education teacher, specialist, or any other person that has relevant knowledge pertaining to the child.

DEC Code of Ethics
Listed are the three code of ethics that are meaningful to me.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND PREPARATION

3. We shall be responsible for maintaining the appropriate national, state, or other credential or licensure requirements for the services we provide while maintaining our competence in practice and research by ongoing participation in professional development and education activities.

As an educator, it is important that I keep my permits up to date. Making sure that I am attending all classes and workshops that are needed to keep myself qualified to work with children. It is also important that I attend professional development courses and workshops to keep myself abreast with new information. These are the items that I must have in order to remain qualified and working with children. This is professional development which show that I am still in on going training to be more knowledgeable.

4. We shall support professionals new to the field by mentoring them in the practice of evidence and ethically based services.
when I was first new to the field of child development. I had not a clue for what I was doing. I was very blessed to have met a couple of older women who taught and showed  the ropes of child development. In this field educators are sharers. We are to pass on new developments and info to new educators. This allows new educators to feel more comfortable in the field. This also gives them ideas and pointers to help them along their new journey as educators. Personally, I am very grateful for all of the teacher that shared a little of their wisdom and expertise with me.

Enhancement of Children’s and Families’ Quality of Lives

2. We shall recognize our responsibility to improve the developmental outcomes of children and to provide services and supports in a fair and equitable manner to all families and children.

Each child is different and unique in their own way. Each child's outcome will not be the same but very different. As educators, it is our responsibility to know each child on an individual basis. Once we have gotten to know the children, we must educate them on an individual basis. Currently where I work, the teacher assess the children using an assessment tool called DRDP. Once the outcomes are evident, the teacher plans an individual curriculum to help each child improve where improvement is needed. In my professional career, I want to make sure that I am able to help children to succeed and improve in areas in which they struggle.

Personal Childhood Web

Personal Childhood Web

My mother's name is Patricia. My mother means the absolute world to me. As a child, my mother made sure that all of my needs were met. My mother was a stay home mom who absolutely took care of her home. She did work part time one year but quit when she realized she needed to be home for her children. My mother is the type of mother that you can go to regarding anything. When I say anything, I really mean anything. My mother was not the disciplinary type of mom. My mothers mom was very strict so she had decided that she did not want to be strict with her children. She has always been kind and very understanding. I can remember as a child feeling so loved and happy to have my mom. She was and still is my number one suppurate in all that I do. She has believed in every dream that I've ever had. She's always said "baby, you can do all things through Christ". Whenever I was sick as a child, my mother would pray to God to give my sickness to her because she could handle the pain better than I. It may sound strange but every time she prayed that prayer, I would feel better and sometimes my mom would actually be sick. The great part about it is that I would take care of my mom to help her feel better. I am truly thankful for my mothers love and support through all of my trials and tribulations!

My fathers mother's name is Addie Mae Thomas! Oh my goodness, tears are falling from my eyes as I write. I love my grandmother so much!!! She absolutely meant the world to me. Sadly, my grandmother passes away in 2008. She was a cancer survivor! My grandmother lived to be 85 years and 5 months old. God had blessed her with many years here on earth. My grandmother is my most inspirational person in my life. My grandmother wanted the very best for my future. It was my grandmother who encouraged me to attend college and to be the best I could be. I don't think I would have attended any college or university if it were not for my grandmother. She believed in education. She always told ,\me that without an education, life would be very difficult for me and I believed her. My grandmother nurtured me from day one of my life. She always spent quality time with me. She taught me the importance of being a respectful young lady. As a child, I never lacked anything. My grandmother made sure that I always had clothing, food, shoes, school supplies, and so many of my other needs met. O am so grateful for my grandmother. She holds a dear place in my heart. I don't believe that I would be the woman that I am today if I had not been reared by my grandmother Addie Mae. She was a very respected woman of God who loved each of her grandchildren the same. Today I honor my grandmother Addie for her love and dedication to my life.

My mother's mother name is Carolyne Jean. We had a very special bond with each other. My grandmother Carolyne Jean died in year 2000! It was a very hard loss for me. Of all of my grandmothers grandchildren, I was the one who she spent most of her time with. It may sound funny but she showed me how to be a good wife one day. She showed and taught me how to cook, clean a home, do laundry, be a young lady, and a well loved person. I am thankful for all the training and day to day skills my grandmother taught me. As a child, my grandmother and I would watch late night movies together, clean house together, and talk about life with one another. We actually spent lots of quality time with each other. I was actually kind of spoiled by her. My cousins would sometimes get jealous of our relationship. My grandmother was a very strong woman. She could handle just about anything that came her way. I believe that's were I draw much of my strength from. Knowing that tuff times may come, but I will make it through them. That's exactly what my grandmother showed me as a child and as an adult. She wanted for me to be strong and endure whatever that would come my way. Again, Today, I honor my grandmother Carolyne Jean for her love and guidance that she has given me. It has taken me thus far!!

Mt step fathers name is Robert! This man holds a very special place in my heart. He was a great step father. He was the man that taught me all about wild life. As a child, my step father would take me fishing to catch fish, bull frogs, and any other type of critter that I could catch. I had an fabulous childhood being raised by my step father, He loved and still love me dearly. My step father taught me how to drive my first car. I can remember being so nervous and he would say "you got it baby, steer the wheel". I have heard many of my friend who've complained about their step fathers but I have no complaints. My step father provided food and shelter for me up until I was an adult. He made sure that we had wonderful Christmas's and my birthday was always special. My step father was totally cool. On Saturday morning, he would wake me up to watch cartoons with me before we started our Saturday chores. These are the wonderful things that made my childhood so great. I had a step father who was not only a provider but he made sure that he spent time with me and got to know the things that I liked and cared for. Thanks Dad!!!

The one teacher that made the difference in my life name is Mr. Jones!Mr. Jones was not only my fifth grade teacher but he was also my music teacher. Mr. Jones introduce me to the love of singing. I had never cared for singing until I met Mr. Jones. Mr. Jones was an excellent music teacher!! He always made me feel important and special in his class. Mr. Jones was a very patient and passionate person about his job. He would stay after school to help other students and myself with difficult assignments. He was the type of teacher that cared about his students and made every effort to make each of his students succeed in their academics. Well, the first time I fell in love with singing was during a music class of Mr. Jones. I will never forget that day and moment when I sung and I was so excited about my achievements. This little small voice of sound actually sounded pretty good. Right away Mr. Jones asked me to sing at the mothers day tea. Oh my goodness, after singing at the mother tea, each of the mothers were crying with joy. Somehow, I had touched their hearts through my voice. From that day forth, I have always loved and enjoyed singing songs. Today I am a praise worshiper at my church. I LOVE to sing praises unto God for all that he has done for me. I am very grateful for Mr. Jones introducing me to singing. If it had not been for Mr. Jones patience, warmth, acceptance, and friendship, I would not be the teacher that I am today. Educators must carry the above spirit or qualities to effect children's lives. Thanks Mr. Jones!!!

A Photograph Of Myself

Here's a photo of me on vacation!

A Quote About Children

Children are the flower of life
Let's be kind to them,
let's make them happy
and let's help them to save the child inside
to the rest of their lives!
www.rishikajain.com

I really enjoyed reading this quote! Children are truly like flowers. They need lots of TLC each and every day of their lives. Children are delicate and need to be handled very gently. Just as the flower needs soil and water to blossom so does children. Educators are the soil and water of the lives of the children whom they come in contact with.

The Child Who Touched My Heart

About 2 years ago, I met this little boy named John. John was 2 years old and had never attended school before. John was a very frightened little boy who was very attached to his pacifier. Pacifiers and bottles where not allowed in my classroom but I had made the choice to work with John. Johns parents wanted me to assist them with helping John wing off of his pacifier. Everyday I would talk to John explaining to him that BIG boys did not need pacifiers at school and he was not in agreement. After about 4 months of working with John, he started to become comfortable with his peers and teachers. John began to trust my word that he was a big boy and no longer needed his pacifier. One day John handed me his pacifier to lay on the counter. It was the most precious moment. John had finally trusted me with securing his pacifier. Each day for about 1 month, John would hand me his pacifier and I would place it on the counter where he could visibly see it. Finally, on a Monday morning John told me that his pacifier was yucky and he did not like it anymore. John and I placed the pacifier into the trash and it was a wrap. This showed me that educators are able to reach children if they invest the time and patience into their lives. I often wonder how would John had felt if I would have forced him to leave his pacifier with his mom or not use it at school at all. He may have been scarred from my unhealthy choice. I am grateful to have the spirit of love. Each child is different and unique. We as educators must be equipped with the tools that will allow us to be effective in each individual child's life. I am proud to say that John, his parents, and I have a very close relationship. Even though John is no longer in my class, I remain in contact with him and his parents. His mother says that John has a picture of me on his bedroom wall. I believe I made a difference in John's life.
